This book is a oldie but a must have in the collection. I’ve read this book a couple times and like to go back to it. James Allen original published As a Man Thinketh in 1903, my favorite quotes by him below. He is wise beyond his years and has been known to be one of the leading pioneers with inspirational and self-help writings of his time.
Allow yourself permission to ponder on these wonderful quotes:
“To begin to think with purpose, is to enter the ranks of those strong ones who only recognize failure as one of the pathways to attainment.”
Purpose begins with your vision of what drives you and moves you to stay motivated and feels ultimately good.
“ Those who cherish a beautiful vision, a lofty ideal in their hearts, will one day realize it”
Create those vision boards and have fun. Put it somewhere you can see it at least once a day (I have mine as my screensaver on my personal laptop).
“ A change of diet will not help those who will not change their thoughts. When our thoughts are pure, we no longer desire impure food. Clean thoughts make clean habits.”
So what exactly are “clean thoughts”? If you emotionally binge eat, discovery the thoughts behind WHY you reach for sugary foods, drinks and desserts. Write them down and allow yourself while in a centered state, to determine if those thoughts are leading you down your desired path (refer back to your vision board). We all love a treat here and there, the tricky part is to identify if the treat is taking you off track and if your thoughts to binge are triggered when you find yourself out of your comfort zone.
“ In all human affairs there are efforts, and there are results, and the strength of the effort is the measure of the result. It is not chance. So-called “gifts”, powers, material, intellectual, and spiritual possessions are the fruits of effort; they are thoughts completed, objects accomplished visions realized.”
I love this as a reminder – continue to slay, gain new learnings and interests in life. Once thoughts are mastered that is when results come to fruition.
“Circumstances do not make the man, they reveal him.”
– James Allen
